Niche Traditions

One of the goals of Ayton Willow is to revive the tradition of niche, exotic and super car manufacturers. Most of the names of coach-builders that made the sports cars and custom cars from the 40s right up to the 90s have been lost to the history books or simply forgotten.

The art of handcrafting individual vehicles with the precision of just the eye or touch of the craftsmen is long a dying art. We think we can revive those arts, by combing it with current design and development skills. The engineering and mathematics behind the design process has developed many folds since the days of those designs, but even a doctorate in engineering cannot teach one those instincts of those yesteryear niche car developers.

While all engineers here bring technological backgrounds of developing cars with them, two of the engineers and mechanics at Ayton Willow bring that tradition with them as well.
We intend to bring in more consultants from those companies, retired designers, Formula one race engineers, Aerodynamicists not only for experience, but to actually revive their names and traditions. We see old genius and young creativity working together as one.

Ayton Willow also proposes to assist and further develop niche manufacturer associations such as the NICHE VEHICLE NETWORK in West Midlands to to pool resources of designers, stylists, vehicle and aero dynamicists, mechanics materials experts and prototypers. Many times we have seen good ideas lie dormant on the drawing board due to the lack of skill recourses within these companies. Not all of the best engineers, mechanics and stylists are hired by the large manufacturers which restrict good ideas.

We propose adding our consortium of manufacturers and engineering and design outsourcing in Asia will also be able to provide them with cheaper one-off designs, components and rapid prototypes. Also in the consortium are financial analysts and business development experts.

Revival of Lost Traditions..

CARROZZERIA ITALO E. CARCA was developed to be one of the most innovative niche car production company that started after the first world war by Italo Enrico Carca in Italy. This was a company that developed windows and panes for carriage manufactures till he decided to develop his own custom built cars. In 1932 one of the successful development of the company came in the form of coaches developed for the Volontari del Soccorso Genova (rescue volunteers of Genova). Click image for higher resolution.

Enrico Carca, his great grandson, himself now a PhD candidate in mechanical engineering, not only shares his grandfather's name, but the passion towards the CARCA Automobile tradition. with Ayton Willow, is looking to revive the name of that great engineer/mechanic and entrepreneur through cars developed for the same niche markets.

Motorcycle owners in the 30s, weren’t rider, but were mechanics on wheels. The beauty of the motorcycle was in its ability to be taken apart, and put back together again by the owner.

Sydney James fondly recalls his grandfather’s cross country journey on his Harley Davidson, as an inspiration to develop personal aircrafts in the 30s. He now himself is a certified mechanic, the Javelin is his dream child coming true.
